VARANASI: In view of Allahabad High Court directive to conduct further hearing in the suit filed by five Hindu women, seeking the right to worship Sringar Gauri and other deities in the Gyanvapi mosque compound, the court of Varanasi district judge on Friday deferred the hearing in the matter till December 5.

District government counsel (civil) Mahendra Prasad Pandey said, “No hearing in any application took place in suit no. 18/2022 today (Friday) in view of the HC directive.”

After the court of Varanasi district judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha on October 14 rejected the application of plaintiffs 2 to 5 (Laxmi Devi, Sita Sahu, Manju Vyas and Rekha Pathak) in case no. 18/2022, seeking carbon dating and scientific investigation of the purported ‘shivling’, they had filed a revision petition before the Allahabad HC.

Pandey said that while hearing the revision petition, the HC had directed Varanasi district judge court to conduct further hearing in this case in the first week of December.

“In view of the HC order, the district judge fixed December 5 as the next date of hearing,” he added.

The last hearing in this case had taken place on November 2 when the AIM had filed an objection against the reports of a court-mandated survey of Gyanvapi mosque held between May 6 and 16. Besides, AIM had also challenged application 82c demanding plaintiffs 2 to 5 in case no. 18/2022 of breaking eastern and northern walls of the basements on the Gyanvapi compound for further survey.

The plaintiffs had to file their reply against AIM’s objections on Friday.
