The Andhra Pradesh high court on Tuesday declined to grant 12 weeks’ time to pay annuity to farmers who have given lands for expansion of Gannavaram airport. The high court said the officials cannot delay payment of annuity to farmers by citing technical reasons.
Tollywood film producer C Ashwini Dutt and his wife Vianaya Kumari moved the high court contending that annuity in lieu of land taken from them is not being paid as promised by the state government.
Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, Javvaji Sharath Chandra told the high court that annuity is not being paid for the last four years.
The counsel for revenue department told the high court that there has been a delay due to bifurcation of districts. He sought 12 weeks’ time to make payment to the petitioner. Justice Ch Manavendranath Roy declined to grant 12 weeks’ time and asked the officials to explain what was the difficulty they were facing because of the bifurcation of districts.
